Blithedale

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)

A fully permitted 1-bedroom, 1-bath ADU with a full kitchen and private outdoor space, designed as a completely separate living environment from the primary residence. The project focused on creating a compact but highly functional ADU that feels comfortable and connected to its environment.

Back view of a modern house with dark gray and black siding, elevated on stilts, accessible by wooden stairs, with a small balcony and a window, surrounded by trees and greenery.
The image shows the exterior of a modern house with a black and grey color scheme. It features a small window, a deck with railings, and a stairway leading up to the entrance. The house is surrounded by lush green trees and plants, with sunlight casting shadows on the ground and the house.

THE CHALLENGE

Building in the Blithedale Canyon area requires thoughtful planning around site constraints, privacy, and integration with the surrounding landscape. The goal was to maximize livability within a smaller footprint while ensuring the ADU felt distinct, private, and fully equipped for long-term use.

THE OUTCOME

A self-contained, modern ADU that offers flexibility for guests, extended family, or rental use, combining efficient design with quality construction to create a space that lives much larger than its footprint.
